NYC Delivery E-Bike Rental Cost in 2026: Every Plan Compared

Renting a delivery e-bike in NYC starts at $49/week or $169/month with Whizz, with $0 down and $99 to own the bike at the end of the plan. The full answer to how much does it cost to rent an e-bike for delivery in NYC depends on three things: which model you pick, whether you pay weekly or monthly, and which add-ons you actually need.

This guide breaks down every Whizz plan for 2026 — Storm-2, Storm-2 All-in, Thunder, and Monster — with the exact pricing, what each plan includes, what costs extra, and the total cost to own the bike at the end. We’ll also show the weekly versus monthly math so you can pick the option that genuinely fits your cash flow.

Prices verified May 2026. Whizz pricing can change — verify on the rent-to-own page before booking. All prices below are for NYC. Other cities (Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, San Francisco) may differ slightly.

If you want to skip ahead, see the master pricing table below, or jump straight to the rent-to-own plans page.

NYC delivery e-bike rental cost: all 2026 plans at a glance

Every Whizz Rent-to-Own plan available in NYC, side by side. All prices are $0 down for pre-owned bikes ($99 down for new), and all plans end with the same optional $99 buyout if you decide to keep the bike.

Plan Price Payment period Range Battery What's included
Storm-2 Weekly $49/week 53 weeks to own 85 mi 26Ah / 1200Wh Battery Swapping available as +$10/week add-on
Storm-2 Monthly $169/month 12 months to own 85 mi 26Ah / 1200Wh Battery Swapping $1 first month included
Storm-2 All-in $199/month 12 months to own 160 mi 26Ah + extra Extra battery + Protection Plan + U-lock
Thunder Weekly $59/week 53 weeks to own 100 mi 35Ah / 1680Wh Battery Swapping available as +$10/week add-on
Thunder Monthly $199/month 12 months to own 100 mi 35Ah / 1680Wh Battery Swapping $1 first month included
Monster Weekly $69/week 53 weeks to own 120 mi 60Ah / 2880Wh Top model, base equipment
Monster Monthly $229/month 12 months to own 120 mi 60Ah / 2880Wh Top model with full equipment
Battery for Storm-2 $59/month 6 months to own 26Ah Battery-only rental option

Three things to note from this table:

  1. $0 down payment applies to all pre-owned bikes. New bikes have a $99 down payment on top of your first payment.
  2. Same $99 buyout across every plan whether you went weekly or monthly, Storm-2 or Monster, the buyout to own the bike at the end of the plan is $99 — and it’s always optional.
  3. Weekly and monthly plans cover the same bikes the difference is the payment cadence and which extras are included by default.

What is NOT in the table above: the Protection Plan ($19+tax per billing period, monthly plans only), the ongoing Battery Swapping cost after the first month ($49/month on monthly plans, or +$10/week on weekly plans — available only for Storm-2 and Thunder), and door-to-door delivery of the bike ($35 in NYC and NJ). We cover all of these in detail further down.

Weekly vs monthly e-bike rental NYC: which one saves you more?

Weekly e-bike rental in NYC is the most popular entry point with Whizz, but riders often pick weekly without doing the full ownership math. The single most common question we get on pricing is whether to pay weekly or monthly. Most riders pick weekly because the number is smaller, then wonder later why they paid more overall. Here is the real math, per bike, for the full ownership period.

Bike Weekly cost Monthly cost Cost to own (weekly) Cost to own (monthly)
Storm-2 $49/week $169/month $2,696 $2,127
Thunder $59/week $199/month $3,226 $2,487
Monster $69/week $229/month $3,756 $2,847

Cost to own = (weekly × 53) + $99 buyout, or (monthly × 12) + $99 buyout. Monthly is roughly $570 to $910 cheaper than weekly over the full term, depending on the bike. So if your goal is to actually own the e-bike at the end, monthly wins on pure cost.

That said, weekly is not a bad deal — it’s a different deal. Three real reasons to pick weekly:

  • Cash flow matches gig pay. DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub all pay weekly. Paying weekly aligns rent with income and avoids a $169—$229 lump sum hitting your account once a month.
  • Lower barrier to start. If you’re testing whether food delivery is even worth it, $49 for one week is easier to commit to than $169 for a month.
  • Same cancel-anytime flexibility. Both plans let you return the bike without penalty. But on weekly, you can stop after one week if delivery isn’t for you.

One thing to factor in on the weekly plans: monthly Storm-2 and Thunder include Battery Swapping for $1 in the first month. Weekly plans don’t get that promo — instead, swap access is a flat +$10/week add-on (only on Storm-2 and Thunder; Monster doesn’t support swapping at all because its battery is large enough not to need it). So Storm-2 weekly with swap is $59/week total, the same as Thunder weekly without swap.

Bottom line: pick weekly if your income is unpredictable or you want to test the work. Pick monthly if you’re committed to delivery and want the lowest total cost to ownership.

Storm-2: the $49/week starter plan ($169/month)

The Storm-2 is the bike most NYC delivery riders rent. It’s the same model NYC DOT selected for its trade-in program, which means it’s UL-certified and built specifically for full-shift delivery work.

Price and terms:

  • $49/week (53 weeks to own) or $169/month (12 months to own)
  • $0 down payment for pre-owned bikes
  • $99 buyout at plan end (optional — return penalty-free anytime)

What you get:

  • Up to 85-mile range with pedal assist
  • 26Ah / 1200Wh battery, 500W brushless gear motor
  • UL-certified (TÜV SÜD), hydraulic brakes
  • Basic equipment: Storm-2 e-bike, user key, battery, battery key, charger, U-lock, U-lock key (pre-owned)
  • Free wear-and-tear maintenance for the full plan

The monthly plan adds one important perk: Battery Swapping access for $1 in the first month (then $49/month). On the weekly plan, swap access is a +$10/week add-on instead — so Storm-2 weekly with swap comes to $59/week total. Either way, swaps work at PopWheels cabinets across NYC, DC, and Philadelphia — unlimited swaps, each under one minute. See the battery swapping service page for cabinet locations.

Who Storm-2 is for: a courier running 6 to 8 hour shifts in dense delivery zones. The 85-mile range covers the vast majority of NYC food delivery shifts on a single charge. Add Battery Swapping and the range becomes effectively unlimited.

If you need more range without dealing with swap cabinets, look at the Storm-2 All-in plan: same bike, plus an extra battery and the Protection Plan, for $199/month. Combined range up to 160 miles on two batteries.

Thunder: the $59/week long-range plan ($199/month)

Thunder is for couriers who want more range built into the bike itself, so they don’t need to hunt for swap cabinets or carry a second battery.

Price and terms:

  • $59/week (53 weeks to own) or $199/month (12 months to own)
  • $0 down payment for pre-owned bikes
  • $99 buyout at plan end (optional)

What you get:

  • Up to 100-mile range with pedal assist
  • 35Ah / 1680Wh battery — 40% more capacity than Storm-2
  • 500W brushless rear hub motor (750W peak power)
  • UL-certified, basic equipment included
  • New items available with an upgrade

The monthly Thunder plan includes the same Battery Swapping $1 first-month deal as Storm-2 (then $49/month). On the weekly plan, swap access is a +$10/week add-on — so Thunder weekly with swap is $69/week. Monster does not support battery swapping at all because its 2880Wh battery is large enough not to need it.

Who Thunder is for: couriers working 8 to 10 hour shifts in zones with fewer swap cabinets — outer Brooklyn, Queens, parts of the Bronx, Philadelphia suburbs, DC outer wards. The extra 15 miles of range over Storm-2 covers roughly 1.5 hours of additional delivery work on a single charge.

Quick math on Thunder vs Storm-2 + swapping: Thunder weekly costs $10 more per week than Storm-2 weekly — $530 more over 53 weeks. But Storm-2 weekly with battery swapping added is also $59/week ($49 + $10 add-on) — exactly the same as Thunder weekly without swap. So the real question becomes: do you want longer range built into the bike (Thunder), or unlimited swap access (Storm-2 + swap)? Same total cost, different reliability model.

Monster: the $69/week top model ($229/month)

Monster is built for high-volume couriers who run the longest shifts and can’t afford to lose time charging or swapping mid-day.

Price and terms:

  • $69/week (53 weeks to own) or $229/month (12 months to own)
  • $0 down payment for pre-owned bikes
  • $99 buyout at plan end (optional)

What you get:

  • Up to 120-mile range with pedal assist (about 75 miles throttle-only)
  • 60Ah / 2880Wh battery — more than double Storm-2 capacity
  • 750W high-performance geared hub motor
  • UL-certified, basic equipment included

Cost-per-mile math: Storm-2 weekly works out to $0.58 per mile of range capacity per week ($49 ÷ 85 mi). Monster weekly is $0.57 per mile ($69 ÷ 120 mi). Roughly identical efficiency — Monster doesn’t save you money per mile, it just gives you headroom so you never run out.

Who Monster is for: high-volume couriers running 10+ hour shifts, riders working in outer-borough zones with sparse swap infrastructure, or anyone whose income directly depends on never being stranded mid-shift. Trade-offs: heavier bike, harder to maneuver in tight delivery corridors, and more battery weight to carry indoors at night.

What’s included in every Whizz rental — and what costs extra

A pricing guide isn’t useful if it hides the extras. Here’s exactly what comes with every Rent-to-Own plan, and exactly what costs more.

Included in every Rent-to-Own plan

  • The e-bike itself (Storm-2, Thunder, or Monster — pre-owned standard, new available as an upgrade)
  • Battery, charger, battery key
  • U-lock and U-lock key
  • Free wear-and-tear maintenance: flat tires, brake adjustments, gear adjustments, seat adjustments, light adjustments, wheel adjustments. Parts: tubes, tires, pads, rotors, chains, cassette
  • Cancel anytime with no penalty before the buyout
  • No SSN required, no credit check (background check applies). Photo ID and a debit or credit card in your name only

Optional add-ons

  • Protection Plan: $19+tax per billing period, available on monthly plans only. Covers 50% of all repair and damage costs. Caps theft liability at $500, as long as you return the working battery.
  • Battery Swapping: available for Storm-2 and Thunder only (not Monster). On monthly plans, $1 first month, then $49/month. On weekly plans, +$10/week add-on to your base rate.
  • Door-to-door delivery: $35 in NYC and NJ. Skip this by picking up in store (locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Harlem).
  • On-demand repairs beyond wear-and-tear: priced individually per the published damage and repair list.
  • Service fee: $4.90 per service request, even for covered wear-and-tear work. Small, but worth knowing.

Fees if something goes wrong

  • Recovery fee for a stolen bike: $150 standard, $75 with the Protection Plan.
  • Late return after plan end: daily penalties apply if the bike isn’t returned within 24 hours.

The 3-day free return

New customers can return the bike within 72 hours for any reason at no charge. This is the lowest-risk way to test whether the bike, the city, and food delivery work for you — without committing to even a full week.

How to save money on your NYC delivery e-bike rental

Nine practical ways to bring your total cost down, ordered roughly by how much they save.

  1. Pick monthly over weekly if you can afford it. You save $569 to $909 over the full ownership term depending on the bike. The math is in the comparison table above.
  2. Pick a pre-owned bike over a new one. Pre-owned starts at $0 down; new bikes have a $99 down payment. All bikes are inspected and serviced before release.
  3. Use promo code GET on your first rental period. Discount starting from $10, varies by bike. Publicly listed on the Whizz site.
  4. Use Battery Swapping at $1 first month on monthly plans. That single first month offsets nearly two weeks of swap fees compared to paying $49/month from the start.
  5. On monthly plans, skip the Protection Plan if you store your bike indoors. $19+tax × 12 months adds up to $228+ over a year. The Protection Plan is available only on monthly plans; if you have a secure indoor spot and lock the bike properly, that money stays with you.
  6. Apply for the NYC DOT trade-in program if you have a non-compliant e-bike. Whizz is an official supplier — qualifying riders get a UL-certified Storm-2 at no cost.

Details on eligibility are in our guide to NYC e-bike laws for delivery workers in 2026.

  1. Pick up in store instead of door-to-door delivery. Save the $35 NYC/NJ delivery fee. Whizz NYC stores are in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Harlem.
  2. Avoid late penalties. Return the bike within 24 hours of plan end. Daily penalties apply after that.
  3. Compare against the alternatives before signing. JOCO and Zoomo each fit certain rider types — our breakdown of the three is in the Whizz vs JOCO vs Zoomo comparison.
Compared to buying a comparable new delivery-grade e-bike outright at $2,500 or more (with no maintenance plan), renting-to-own a Storm-2 monthly comes to $2,127 total including the $99 buyout — and covers wear-and-tear for the entire year.

FAQ

What’s the cheapest way to rent an e-bike for delivery in NYC?

The cheapest weekly e-bike rental in NYC is Whizz Storm-2 Weekly at $49/week with $0 down. The cheapest monthly plan is Storm-2 Monthly at $169/month. Apply promo code GET on your first period for an additional discount starting from $10 (varies by bike).

Do I need a credit check or SSN to rent an e-bike from Whizz?

No SSN is required and there is no credit check. Whizz only asks for a valid photo ID and a debit or credit card in your name. A background check applies, but it does not require SSN. You must be 18 or older.

What’s the total cost to own a Whizz e-bike at the end of the rent-to-own plan?

A Storm-2 monthly plan totals $2,127 to own ($169 × 12 + $99 buyout). Weekly totals $2,696 ($49 × 53 + $99). Thunder monthly totals $2,487, and Monster monthly totals $2,847. The $99 buyout is always optional — you can return the bike penalty-free at any point before the plan ends.

Can I return the e-bike before the rent-to-own period ends?

Yes. You can return the e-bike anytime before the 6 or 12 months are up with no penalty. New customers also get a 3-day free return: try the bike for 72 hours, and if it’s not the right fit, return it at no charge.

The bottom line on NYC delivery e-bike rental cost

So how much does it cost to rent an e-bike for delivery in NYC? It comes down to one decision: do you want to ride for one week, one month, or own the bike at the end? Weekly plans from $49 give the lowest barrier to start. Monthly plans from $169 give the lowest total cost to ownership. Either way, $0 down means you start earning without a deposit, $99 ends the plan with a bike you own, and free wear-and-tear maintenance keeps the bike running for the entire year you’re renting it. See all current plans on the rent-to-own page, or check the full pricing list for repair and service costs.
