Renting a delivery e-bike in NYC starts at $49/week or $169/month with Whizz, with $0 down and $99 to own the bike at the end of the plan. The full answer to how much does it cost to rent an e-bike for delivery in NYC depends on three things: which model you pick, whether you pay weekly or monthly, and which add-ons you actually need.
This guide breaks down every Whizz plan for 2026 — Storm-2, Storm-2 All-in, Thunder, and Monster — with the exact pricing, what each plan includes, what costs extra, and the total cost to own the bike at the end. We’ll also show the weekly versus monthly math so you can pick the option that genuinely fits your cash flow.
Prices verified May 2026. Whizz pricing can change — verify on the rent-to-own page before booking. All prices below are for NYC. Other cities (Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, San Francisco) may differ slightly.

| Battery for Storm-2 | $59/month | 6 months to own | — | 26Ah | Battery-only rental option |
Three things to note from this table:
What is NOT in the table above: the Protection Plan ($19+tax per billing period, monthly plans only), the ongoing Battery Swapping cost after the first month ($49/month on monthly plans, or +$10/week on weekly plans — available only for Storm-2 and Thunder), and door-to-door delivery of the bike ($35 in NYC and NJ). We cover all of these in detail further down.
Weekly e-bike rental in NYC is the most popular entry point with Whizz, but riders often pick weekly without doing the full ownership math. The single most common question we get on pricing is whether to pay weekly or monthly. Most riders pick weekly because the number is smaller, then wonder later why they paid more overall. Here is the real math, per bike, for the full ownership period.
| Bike | Weekly cost | Monthly cost | Cost to own (weekly) | Cost to own (monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Storm-2 | $49/week | $169/month | $2,696 | $2,127 |
| Thunder | $59/week | $199/month | $3,226 | $2,487 |
| Monster | $69/week | $229/month | $3,756 | $2,847 |
Cost to own = (weekly × 53) + $99 buyout, or (monthly × 12) + $99 buyout. Monthly is roughly $570 to $910 cheaper than weekly over the full term, depending on the bike. So if your goal is to actually own the e-bike at the end, monthly wins on pure cost.
That said, weekly is not a bad deal — it’s a different deal. Three real reasons to pick weekly:
One thing to factor in on the weekly plans: monthly Storm-2 and Thunder include Battery Swapping for $1 in the first month. Weekly plans don’t get that promo — instead, swap access is a flat +$10/week add-on (only on Storm-2 and Thunder; Monster doesn’t support swapping at all because its battery is large enough not to need it). So Storm-2 weekly with swap is $59/week total, the same as Thunder weekly without swap.
Bottom line: pick weekly if your income is unpredictable or you want to test the work. Pick monthly if you’re committed to delivery and want the lowest total cost to ownership.
The Storm-2 is the bike most NYC delivery riders rent. It’s the same model NYC DOT selected for its trade-in program, which means it’s UL-certified and built specifically for full-shift delivery work.
Price and terms:
What you get:
The monthly plan adds one important perk: Battery Swapping access for $1 in the first month (then $49/month). On the weekly plan, swap access is a +$10/week add-on instead — so Storm-2 weekly with swap comes to $59/week total. Either way, swaps work at PopWheels cabinets across NYC, DC, and Philadelphia — unlimited swaps, each under one minute. See the battery swapping service page for cabinet locations.
Who Storm-2 is for: a courier running 6 to 8 hour shifts in dense delivery zones. The 85-mile range covers the vast majority of NYC food delivery shifts on a single charge. Add Battery Swapping and the range becomes effectively unlimited.
If you need more range without dealing with swap cabinets, look at the Storm-2 All-in plan: same bike, plus an extra battery and the Protection Plan, for $199/month. Combined range up to 160 miles on two batteries.
Thunder is for couriers who want more range built into the bike itself, so they don’t need to hunt for swap cabinets or carry a second battery.
Price and terms:
What you get:
The monthly Thunder plan includes the same Battery Swapping $1 first-month deal as Storm-2 (then $49/month). On the weekly plan, swap access is a +$10/week add-on — so Thunder weekly with swap is $69/week. Monster does not support battery swapping at all because its 2880Wh battery is large enough not to need it.
Who Thunder is for: couriers working 8 to 10 hour shifts in zones with fewer swap cabinets — outer Brooklyn, Queens, parts of the Bronx, Philadelphia suburbs, DC outer wards. The extra 15 miles of range over Storm-2 covers roughly 1.5 hours of additional delivery work on a single charge.
Quick math on Thunder vs Storm-2 + swapping: Thunder weekly costs $10 more per week than Storm-2 weekly — $530 more over 53 weeks. But Storm-2 weekly with battery swapping added is also $59/week ($49 + $10 add-on) — exactly the same as Thunder weekly without swap. So the real question becomes: do you want longer range built into the bike (Thunder), or unlimited swap access (Storm-2 + swap)? Same total cost, different reliability model.
Monster is built for high-volume couriers who run the longest shifts and can’t afford to lose time charging or swapping mid-day.
Price and terms:
What you get:
Cost-per-mile math: Storm-2 weekly works out to $0.58 per mile of range capacity per week ($49 ÷ 85 mi). Monster weekly is $0.57 per mile ($69 ÷ 120 mi). Roughly identical efficiency — Monster doesn’t save you money per mile, it just gives you headroom so you never run out.
Who Monster is for: high-volume couriers running 10+ hour shifts, riders working in outer-borough zones with sparse swap infrastructure, or anyone whose income directly depends on never being stranded mid-shift. Trade-offs: heavier bike, harder to maneuver in tight delivery corridors, and more battery weight to carry indoors at night.

Compared to buying a comparable new delivery-grade e-bike outright at $2,500 or more (with no maintenance plan), renting-to-own a Storm-2 monthly comes to $2,127 total including the $99 buyout — and covers wear-and-tear for the entire year.
The cheapest weekly e-bike rental in NYC is Whizz Storm-2 Weekly at $49/week with $0 down. The cheapest monthly plan is Storm-2 Monthly at $169/month. Apply promo code GET on your first period for an additional discount starting from $10 (varies by bike).

A Storm-2 monthly plan totals $2,127 to own ($169 × 12 + $99 buyout). Weekly totals $2,696 ($49 × 53 + $99). Thunder monthly totals $2,487, and Monster monthly totals $2,847. The $99 buyout is always optional — you can return the bike penalty-free at any point before the plan ends.
Yes. You can return the e-bike anytime before the 6 or 12 months are up with no penalty. New customers also get a 3-day free return: try the bike for 72 hours, and if it’s not the right fit, return it at no charge.
So how much does it cost to rent an e-bike for delivery in NYC? It comes down to one decision: do you want to ride for one week, one month, or own the bike at the end? Weekly plans from $49 give the lowest barrier to start. Monthly plans from $169 give the lowest total cost to ownership. Either way, $0 down means you start earning without a deposit, $99 ends the plan with a bike you own, and free wear-and-tear maintenance keeps the bike running for the entire year you’re renting it. See all current plans on the rent-to-own page, or check the full pricing list for repair and service costs.
